There you go, a small comparison table before we start talking seriously. As you can see, we included not only dimensions and weight, but the color and number of blades. Of course, we mentioned for which gender the razor is made.

Color is usually a good indicator, but you’ll see in this article that it’s not the only indicator.

1. Gillette Venus Original – One Of The Most Popular On Amazon For Years

We're starting off our shaving journey with a feminine razor. As most users say, it’s one of the best razors Gillete made for women, and for a reason. It’s one of the cheapest razors on the market but it doesn’t lack the effectiveness. Also, one of the things that is good is that it does not have extra lubrication which can dull the blades, but because of it, there are opinions that this razor leaves a razor burn which is not pleasant at all.

One of the down sides is that this razor doesn’t last very long. Of course, that depends on how often you use the razor and how often do you shave, but apparently, if you shave twice a week, it will last around 6 weeks, which is a short period of time for a razor to become dull and unusable. But, the blade is gentler than most of the razors on the market and that is a great thing, especially compared to the price. It offers hydration to the skin so you don’t need to moisturize after shaving, but it’s always recommended that you to, your skin needs to be hydrated. We haven’t read about the skin feeling smooth after shaving, and that is a major minus, because you want to feel smooth once you’re done with shaving.

It’s one of the most popular razors for women probably because it is not expensive and, as our users told us, in the past this razor would come with a razor holder. Now it comes without it and even though it doesn’t play a role in this review because we’re talking only about razors, it is pretty neat when you have some extra for the paid price.

We would like to point out that the “life span” of this razor is very short, which makes this razor not so worth the price. Okay, out of sanitary reasons you should not use a razor for too long, but 6 weeks is really not a long period. Also, razor burns are not welcome, and we strongly advise to moisturize properly.

Pros
  • Price
  • Gentle blade
Cons
  • Short life span
  • Razor burns

2. Schick Xtreme – Great For Sensitive Skin

We're continuing our review list with a disposable razor for men. And, we're starting off with a downside of a razor. It seems that the quality of this razor has dropped. Apparently, the razor has a new design and with the new design the efficiency went out the window. The blades get dull after using the razor for few times and that, of course, makes people mad. It lacks longevity. People are generally dumbfounded over this because it was a great razor before they changed it, and if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

That aside, this razor is advertised as the one that bends according to the shape of your face/jaw, and it is a quality that stayed the same. In general, this razor is great for people who do not shave that often. There’s no razor urn, and if there is, it’s minimal, which is something we all want in a razor. That’s because there’s a lubricated strip on the top of the razor which prevents the razor burn and enables the skin to be smooth. When speaking about razor for men, it’s somehow an unwritten rule that the men are shaving only the face, and a lot of our users are shaving other parts and it’s important for the razor to be sharp and durable.

The biggest problem about this razor is the lower quality than before. Schick remodeled the old razor and that resulted in big dissatisfaction among our users. Most of them reported that this remodeled version lack longevity. Okay, you’re buying disposable razors, but that doesn’t mean you have to buy them every two weeks. Efficiency is also something that’s closely connected to longevity, because if the blades are dull, razor won’t be efficient anymore.

The blade cannot be separated from the handle, and you do have to use a new razor every time you think it’s time to change it, hence disposable razor. You will, however, get 8 (eight) razors in this pack, so it’s a good bet for the money.

Pros
  • 8 razors in one pack
  • Lubricated strip on the top of the razor
  • No razor burn
  • Bends to the shape of the face/jaw
Cons
  • Longevity, bad decision to change something that was good in the first place
  • Dull blades very quick

3. Schick Slim Twin ST – Best For Bikini Area

Again, a product from Schick's kitchen, but this time it’s a razor for women. And, apparently, there’s something going on with their razors because the blade is just not sharp enough. Women tend to shave more body hair than men so it’s obvious that they need sharp blades if they want to shave that body hair, and with this razor it’s just not possible. Most reviews said that they’re really disposable, meaning that they are good for one shaving and after that they’re done, they don’t shave a thing, nada, zilch. So, like the men counterpart, this razor also has a big problem with longevity and effectiveness due to the dull blades.

The handle is… Ordinary. There are a lot of blades with ergonomic handle that will provide better, safer grip. Even though this handle is made out of rubber, it’s still ordinary and slippery. Maybe it depends on the size of hands? We’re only mentioning that because a lot of users said that this razor is great for shaving bikini area and we all know how important it is to have a steady hand while shaving those parts of the body. Apart from having a steady hand, there’s no razor burn and this razor, like the razor for men we described previously, has a lubricated strip on the top of razor so it enables smooth finish.

One thing that we found extremely helpful is the push button that you can press and release all, or mostly all, hairs that are left stuck between the blades. All you have to do is to push the button and run the razor under water. It will prolong its life in the long run, but we don’t know for how much, given the fact that longevity is an issue.

Just like with the previous disposable razor, longevity and effectiveness is a big problem. Our users reported that this razor is okay for two or three usages and after that the blades become dull and unusable. Not nearly as cost-effective as you would hope. The handle could be done better. Apart from the material which should provide a good grip, it’s still very ordinary and not ergonomic.

Pros
  • No razor burn
  • Great for bikini area
  • Lubricated strip
  • Rubber handle
  • Great addition of push button for releasing extra hair stuck between the blades
Cons
  • Longevity
  • Effectiveness due to short longevity
  • Handle no being ergonomic

4. Gillette Venus Sensitive - #1 Best Seller, Great For Sensitive Skin

It’s#1 for a reason. Almost every one claims that is' perfect for sensitive skin. It has a lubricated strip on the top of the razor which enables easy shaving, smooth skin and no razor burns. The lubricated strip is mostly made out of aloe and that works charm for the skin, and same goes for the razor burns. The blades are sharp, though, and you should be careful when shaving sensitive areas, like knees or ankles. It has a pivoting head which makes possible for you to reach those sensitive areas and not get cut in the process. But, even though there’s no razor burn, and the blades are sharp, your skin could get nicked even if you’re extra careful. As for the lubricated strip, there were really not quarrels about it, except that it doesn’t last long. So, enjoy it while it lasts.

The handle is very good, ergonomic and easy to hold. When you’re trying to reach parts like the back of your thighs, you need to have a good grip on the handle for two reasons. One, you don’t want to cut yourself, two, you don’t want your razor falling out of your slippery hand and nick some skin off. So, this handle really does its job. They also last quite long without becoming dull in the process and you can use them up to three months before needing to replace them. Great deal for the paid money.

There’s really nothing much to complain about this product. Our users said that it is a fine razor, with the exception of lubricated strip that become depleted quickly. It’s possible that you can get razor burns and not so smooth finish when you shave without the lubrication, but not many users said they experienced those problems.

Pros
  • Great for sensitive skin
  • No razor burns and the skin is smooth after shaving
  • Longevity
  • Great ergonomic handle
  • Pivoting head that follows the shape of your body part that’s being shaved
Cons
  • Lubricated strip gets worn out pretty fast

5. Gillette Simply Venus – Refillable Razor

Finally, a razor that is refillable. It’s made out of plastic and you don’t have to toss your razor every time the blades get dull, all you have to do is to change the head. It has a lubricated strip so you don’t have to worry about skin being rough after shaving. In general, this is a great razor because you can change the razor and you’re good to go. Being refillable, it can sometimes be challenging to remove and replace the razor, but it’s all about practice. It will be hard in the beginning, and you really have to pay close attention to not cut yourself while replacing the razor.

That being said, it seems to us that the razors are becoming dull quickly, after only 3 or 4 weeks (if you use them twice a week). There is no razor burn, probably due to the lubricated strip, but the overall experience is that this is not Venus quality. The handle is not as good, it’s rather small and if you don’t pay close attention, it will slip from your hand and potentially bleed you. What is true is that with this razor there really are fewer cuts and nicks on your skin. It can be because of the pivoting head that follows the natural curve of ankles, knees and other body parts that need shaving.

Beware of shaving when the blades are dull! Do not press too hard, because even if it’s dull, it can still damage your skin, and razor burns are certain if you do that. As we mentioned, the good thing about this razor is that is refillable and you can change the razor when you think it served its purpose, but don’t force it.

Even if the razor is refillable, you have to be extra careful when you try to replace it. Good thing is that you really don’t have to throw away entire razor, only the part with the blades, but they are sharp (in the beginning, as our users said) and if you’re trying to replace them in the shower, you can easily hurt yourself. Caution is the key.

Longevity is the problem we thought we won’t encounter with this razor, but here it is. It really doesn’t last long, and our users said it is kind of disappointing because it’s not the quality they expected out of Venus. The handle should be better and not made out of plastic because it’s slippery, even though it’s ergonomic.

Pros
  • Refillable, you don’t have to waste an entire razor
  • Lubricated strip
  • Fewer nicks and razor burns
Cons
  • Longevity
  • Blades become quickly
  • Slippery handle (it’s ergonomic, but slips because it’s made out of plastic)
  • Changing the razor can be challenging

6. Schick Hydro – 5 Blades

Back to the men's territory. And the first thing we will mention is that they last long, around 4 months if you shave every other day. We’re not questioning if it’s sanitary or not, just bringing the facts to the spotlight. That being considered, it’s really worth the price. Instead of a lubricated strip, there’s a new thing included, something that’s called hydrating gel reservoir. It is supposed to offer lubrication while shaving and to provide smooth skin and to hydrate your skin for 1 hour after shaving. But the thing is, after shaving the gel is like residue on your face and it’s not necessarily a bad thing, just wash your face.

It has 5 blades that don’t get dull quickly and this is, actually, first product with more than 3 blades. The benefit is that you’ll shave easier and it will glide on your skin. It’s good for sensitive skin because it leaves no razor burns, but if you’re more on the sensitive side, it won’t be the product for you because even if there’s no razor burn, you can still experience irritation. The handle is okay, and the razor is very light and made out of plastic.

This is one of the most reviewed razors on Amazon and on our list with almost 1800 reviews to this date. It is for a reason. It is a good razor, but there is place for an improvement. Face is a sensitive area and every razor should be made for sensitive skin. Our users reported that it’s good for average skin, but not for sensitive one. Even though there are no actual razor burns, irritation can be a problem.

Overall, this is a fine product, otherwise there wouldn’t be such a great demand for it.

Pros
  • 5 blades
  • Longevity, really lasts long
  • Hydrating gel reservoir, instead of a lubricating strip
Cons
  • Handle and plastic overall
  • Irritation that this razor can cause

7. Schick Hydro Silk TrimStyle – A Razor And A Trimmer

Still with Schick, still with 5 blades, but this time with a razor for women. And, that’s not all. It is not only a razor, it is a razor and a bikini trimmer combined. Of course, the price is a little higher, but it’s normal if the product is more high end, like this one. The razor is on one side and the trimmer on the other. You need a battery for trimmer, and with it, you get a little comb with for customizable settings. There’s a guard on trimmer so you won’t pinch your skin, but the overall impression about it is that the trimmer leaves a nice finish and that it’s a good add on. Hair can be stuck in a trimmer and it’s somewhat difficult to clean it, either with water or Q tips.

The razor/trimmer is somehow big and chunky. The design is not the luckiest solution, and there’s no ergonomic handle, which is logical because trimmer and razor are on different sides, there’s no place for an actual handle. It doesn’t make it more difficult to shave with until you get used to it, but it is inconvenient. There’s no lubricated strip, but a serum that’s located around the razor head. It is supposed to moisturize skin for two hours after shaving and to provide smooth skin. It does make your skin nice and moisturized, but whenever the razor comes in contact with water, the serum starts “drooling” and dripping and it will not last long. It’s a very good product that leaves no razor burns and the skin is silky. The blades are sharp and the razor can last up to several months.

This is one of the best products on our list. Even when we point out the flaws our users report, we still believe this product is worth the price. Trimmer is a great addition, but being difficult to clean leaves suspicion about how long it will work properly. Razor doesn’t have that problem because of the 5 blades and general opinion that it is sharp and fine.

Most complaints are targeted to the moisturizing serum that drools and it will be depleted very fast. Which is a shame, serum is really good and our users do say that it leaves a nice finish and it’s easier to shave. Other complaint is about the design of the product because it’s not easy to handle, especially when your hands are wet and slippery.

Pros
  • Trimmer and razor combined
  • Longevity
  • 5 blades
  • Nice and silky touch after shaving
Cons
  • Design
  • Serum that drools

8. BIC Twin Select – It’s Cheap And Average

When it comes to men's razors, the less is the better. A lot of men commented that this razor is great. The handle is long enough for a solid grip, but it’s ordinary, made out of plastic and it can get slippery when wet. There is no lubricated strip or any lubrication, for that matter, included with this razor and a lot of users are saying it’s a good thing. We guess it depends on your taste and habits in shaving, but in most of the cases, lubrication is important not only during shaving but after. This is an ordinary, plain razor.

It has only 2 blades and it does leave a razor burn. If you have an important meeting in the morning, better to shave the night before because of the irritation and the skin bumps you can experience. This is not a gentle razor. It’s an average and cheap razor, it doesn’t last very long due to being average and the blades get dull after few usages.

Even though this razor is very simple and average, men like it. Especially older men who remember how it was to shave without fancy razors that smell like roses. It is cheap and you get what you pay for. Razor made out of plastic, with a simple handle and you get two blades. There’s no lubrication included, and the handle could get remodeled for the sake of being safer to use. We’re not sure if the lack of lubrication causes irritation and razor burns, but it would sure help if there is something to lubricate the skin to some extent.

It doesn’t last long, and some users reported that they throw it away after using in only one time, because they’re cheap and disposable, not necessarily because the blades become duller. It is, however, bad that there are only 2 blades on the razor head, and it does affect the effectiveness of the razor.

Pros
  • It’s cheap
  • Men like it
Cons
  • Handle is simple and could use remodeling
  • 2 blades
  • Longevity
  • No lubrication
  • Razor burn and irritation can happen

9. Gillette Mach3 – Good For Sensitive Skin

This razor is also for men, but unlike the previous razor, this is not average at all. The thing that is different, in a good way, is the angle of the blade, which is shallow, around 30 degrees. The reason behind this is the handle. Why, you're asking? The handle has a different shape but the manufacturer didn't do this on purpose (the blade-handle ratio). It's just the design, and there's no actual idea in that direction behind the design. It provides very smooth gliding due to the good angle, and there are fewer, if any, nicks after shaving.

One razor can last around 6 weeks, if you shave every other day. That's great, given the fact that men shave their faces more often than women shave their body hair. There's a lubrication strip attached at the top of the razor, and it does offer some lubrication, but it wears out very fast, so it's not as effective as you would hope. They're affordable, so it makes it popular enough. The handle is fatter and that enables solid grip, so no problem in dropping your razor.

There’s not much to complain about this product. Lubrication is not something most men pay attention to, but users did report that the lubrication strip wears out quickly and sometimes it can cause irritation or razor burns. It’s a good product, not average, but not high end, for sure.

Pros
  • The handle-blade ratio and the angle of the blade
  • Longevity
  • No razor burns
Cons
  • Lubrication strip wears off quickly

10. Gillette Sensor2 Plus Pivot – Most Recognizable Disposable Razor

Now this one is a classic. It’s a classic Gillette razor, probably one of the most recognizable disposable razors. It has a simple handle that’s like a model for every standard razor handle, and if you prefer it, go ahead. But the ergonomic handle has proven to be better and to have a better grip. It’s made out of plastic, and it doesn’t last long, if you shave every other day, the blade will become dull after 2 weeks. So, longevity flies out the window.

There’s a lubricating strip on the top of the razor and it will last for several shavings, but it will be worn out before the blades become dull. It can cause irritation and razor burn. One of the comments is that it clogs easily and it’s not as easy to clean them from all the stuck hair. Yes, they are disposable, but that doesn’t mean you have to shave only once and not use them again. Pivot is also limited, but that is expected, given the fact this razor is very average. It only has two blades.

Given the fact this disposable razor is completely average, we must look at it from that angle. The razor is built to accommodate the price, thus the design and disposability. Handle is like any other average handle that you would find in razor. It’s made out of plastic, it’s thin and long and it provides average grip. Having two blades, a lot of users reported that it’s actually great when they shave under the nose because it’s not wide.

It’s disposable in a true manner of the word, because it lacks longevity. Two weeks tops is the max usage, and you can throw it away after using it once, depending on how thick, strong or long your beard is. Lubrication exists but it will, eventually, be worn out before the blades are dull from usage. It clogs easy so there’s another reason to dispose of them after using them once.

Pros
  • It’s cheap
  • Recognizable design and recognizable Gillette razor
Cons
  • No effective lubrication
  • Not for sensitive skin
  • Handle is made out of plastic
  • Longevity

Disposable Razors – Buyer’s Guide

Here we are, after the long road called presenting products. Now you’re equipped with hard facts, but wait, there’s more! We will give you even more facts about razors so you’ll be fully prepared for what comes next. In this buyer’s guide, we’ll give you more things to read and remember before deciding which razor is the best for you.

So, put on your shaving cream, and let’s start shaving the facts.

Single Blade vs. Multi-Blade

Single blade razor will cut closer to the skin and because it doesn’t have multiple blades, it won’t pass over your skin multiple times, like the multi-blade razors do. So, single bladed razors are better overall for irritation because it won’t cause it in most of the cases. But in the end, the quality of the blade and the steel will make the difference, not the number of the blades.

Number Of Blades

  • 1 blade razor – it’s the basic type and most common. It will shave close to the skin (closest) but you have to be extra careful not to cut yourself. If you don’t do it properly, your face can feel like sandpaper, and nobody wants that.
  • 2-4 blades razor – this is “in the middle” type of razor and most likely to be found in a grocery shop. They’re usually easy to use and they offer smooth finish and smooth skin.
  • 5 blades razor – it is the type of razor that will leave no razor burns and it usually leaves smooth skin.

Brands

When you consider buying anything, it’s always a safe bet to buy a brand, because if you decide to buy a copy, it can result in a nice rash on your face or body. The most popular razor brands are Gillette, Bic and Schick. Stick to the known brands, because, as we mentioned, the quality of steel makes the difference.

Number Of Disposables Per Pack

In most of the cases, cheap razors come in big packages. So, it is a good indicator if you should buy something or not. Quality beats quantity.

Lubricating Strips

Most of today’s razors have a lubricating strip included, and for a reason. Lubricating strip is supposed to provide smoother gliding across your face or body, and it will leave your skin fresh after shaving. The bad thing about them is that they get worn out usually quickly.

Pivoting Heads

Pivoting head is supposed to enable the razor to follow the natural curve or your face/jaw/body part you’re shaving. It’s very useful when you’re shaving the parts that are sensitive and not easy to access (under the nose, jaw, ankles, knees).

How To Shave With A Disposable Razor?

  • Make sure your skin is properly moisturized before shaving, meaning, use soap, shaving cream/gel or baby oil. It will depend on your needs.
  • Press the razor to your skin but do not press to hard, because it will cause irritation, razor burn or it can even nick your skin off.
  • Shave in the opposite direction of the hair growth so you can get all the hairs shaved.

How Often Should You Change Disposable Razors?

There is really no rule for that, but you should change it when you feel that the blades are becoming dull and if the razor cause razor burn or irritation.

Does Shaving More Often Cause The Hair To Grow Thicker And Faster?

Absolutely not. It’s a very common myth, but it’s not true. Hair growth is not determined by frequent shaving, but by your genetics and hormones.

Should I Always Use Water When I Shave?

Yes, if you want to avoid rash, irritation or razor burns. Always use water and some kind of lubrication when you’re shaving.

How To Take The Razor Out Of A Disposable Razor?

Most of the disposable razors are not meant to change the razor head, but to throw away after usage. But there are some models that are refillable and you can change the razor. There’s usually a button you’ll have to press in order for the old razor to be ejected so you can replace it with a new one. Or, more common is that you have to wiggle the razor sideways or up and down so you can remove old with the new one.

Schick vs Gillette Razors: Which Is The Best?

Things that you should consider before buying either one are: quality of shaving (blades), price, and amount of blades. Gillette is pricier than Schick, but Schick generally has lower quality shaving, but Schick has more budget friendly options. The amount of blades is important for the reasons we explained before, but bear in mind that both companies have its better and not so good razors. Gillette has a longer tradition and generally is more popular for a reason.

Conclusion

Congrats, you made it to the end of our article. It has been a smooth gliding (pun intended) and we hope you’ve enjoyed it.

Now, you have knowledge about different good disposable razors and how to maintain them, what is a myth and what is not, and you know how to shave, great! We really hope this article managed to teach you something useful.
